About

My name is Dorene and I'd like to welcome you to Seasonal Chapters, my little blog where I get to share my hobbies, creative endeavors, and some special moments along the way. I am married to my best friend Dave, who is my confidant and greatest supporter.
I love the family and life we have created, and look forward to celebrating the future chapters in our life together. I have two fantastic children, David and Pam, who are growing into young adults before my very eyes (and faster than I'd care to admit). Their kindness and talents never cease to amaze me and watching them grow and develop has been one of my greatest joys in life.
I've had a successful career as a pediatric nurse and have worked in various roles within the profession. My career as a nurse has been very rewarding and I've had many clients that have touched my life in countless ways. I have been blessed to have had some amazing co-workers and some have become close life long friends. However there were times when my career became demanding and I struggled a bit to juggle all of the "balls" that represented the various roles in my life...wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend and professional. There often did not seem to be enough hours in the day and I would rush through the necessary routines to accomplish all that I needed to do. Somewhere along the way I began to forget to stop and smell the roses. I would often say "Someday I'll do that", or "In the future I'll work on this", or "When I retire I will..."
Then on September 13, 2013 I was in a severe life threatening accident. It  was a miracle that I survived and it was as if God was reminding me how truly precious life is. It made me refocus, cherish each day, and not take a single moment for granted. As a nurse I was well aware of how fragile life is, but in my day to day life I often became consumed by responsibilities and "to do" lists. My injuries resulted in an extended medical leave from work while I healed and recovered. The time away from my normal routines gave me hours to reflect on what really matters in life and how I wanted to spend my time. I've always been creative, but along the way I began to neglect my hobbies and doing many of the things I enjoyed. I often let the day to day routines wear me down. It was clear that I needed to create a better balance in my life.
So with the encouragement of my husband, children and a dear friend, I decided to start this blog as a place to share my creative endeavors and maybe inspire someone else along the way. It's a place that I can go to celebrate the little things that often become life's greatest blessings. I hope that with sharing a portion of my world I can remind others to enjoy the little moments, create lasting memories each season with those you love, and find happiness in every day and each chapter of life.

  3. Hello Doreen - thank you so much for stopping by my blog, Vintage Mama's Cottage. I hope that you will be as inspired as I am to begin (again!) my art journaling journey. It would be fun to include others in a little blogland art journal challenge . . . . please let me know when you post pictures of your journal once you get started. I'm going to try to post my progress weekly, so I hope you will stop back and see what's going on! Have a wonderful Thursday! Nina @ Vintage Mama's Cottage
